First and foremost I would like to welcome everyone to Painted Arrow Equine Sports Massage & Boutique. My name is Ashleigh Rogers, and I am the owner and founder. My goals through this website, blog, and my equine body work are to improve your horses health, as well as connect with horse owners from all over. In the same I also hope to help educate on the importance of proper care for our equine partners. I am very excited to begin this new journey and career, and share it with all of you. I decided that while I am working my business I would blog so that anyone who wants to join my in my journeys could. I will share stories, ideas, creations, and so much more in my blog posts. The purpose of my blogs are to give an insight to the daily life of a barrel racer, a mom, a wife, a horse owner, a business owner, a friend, and so much more...
A little about me...
I was born and raised in Oregon. My love for horses and passion for working with them began at a very young age, as my parents used to breed Paints. Horses have always been a huge part of my life. One horse in particular, whom you will hear about a lot, is my gelding, Ditto. I am a mother to two beautiful children, and a wife. My discipline of choice is Barrel Racing, and recently I have added Break Away Roping to the mix. I currently hold a full time job aside from my equine body work at our local hospital as a CNA2. My hopes are to eventually lessen my hours at the hospital and up my hours working with horses, and being with my family.
My how & why...
Ditto was the first horse I trained by myself, which I did during my high school years. When we completed high school, we went on to gaming play days and small barrel races. My plan was to start running some smaller rodeos. We took a different direction, and began competing in Rodeo Queen pageants. We did this for a few years. It was a great experience and helped Ditto and I grow so much. After we were done with our queening we did some more play days. Not long after that Ditto went back to High School with my cousin, who used him in OHSET, which is the Oregon High School Equestrian Teams competition. They competed together for two an a half years before Ditto suffered a ligament injury from one wrong step that would stall bound him for nine months, and off of competing for a little over a year. Ditto recovered from his ligament injury and went back to competing for just under a year, before he began experiencing hock issues. Using holistic body treatments such as PEMF and massage from surrounding providers Ditto started making some improvements. I could tell he was not ready to retire, but he was also not able to start competing at the level he was reaching. Ditto has a tremendous personality and is amazing with kids, so I knew as much as he taught me he could offer that to others. So we gave riding lessons to beginner riders. Recently Ditto went lame again. In his front the time, after X-rays and a visit from our trusted local vet, we found Ditto has what is called White Line disease in his hoof, which grew following an abscess he got while in our field. A following visit with our vet was scheduled to start the process of resections to his foot. Much of the outer wall of his hoof was removed to expose the White Line disease to air which helps kill the bacteria. He now has a special support shoe he has to wear to give his foot the missing support. It was during all this process with Ditto that opened my eyes to what I really wanted to do. So I began researching on where, and how to become certified in equine sports massage, as well as PEMF, and other holistic body work. I firmly believe these are some factors that have helped Ditto through his hard cards he had felt to him. Though he will now be fully retired, he will still make an amazing teacher one way or the other. I currently have two younger horses, a filly and a colt. The filly, Bunny is a three year old APHA, who we have big plans for in the barrel pin. The colt, Legend whom is actually Dittos nephew is a two year old APHA, who we plan to rope off of. With these young up and comers, I knew I wanted to be able to offer to them what I wish I could have offered t Ditto at a much younger age. Granted I had providers in the area that I used for Dittos treatments, I can't help but think what I could have offered him, had I been doing what I am doing now, back then. Once I really started educating myself in my horses needs more in depth then I realized, this is what I need to be doing. Because of Ditto I have now expanded what I know and what I can offer so much. I am really excited to start helping other owners and riders and share my knowledge with them. Believe it or not this is the short version of my why and how. There really is so much more.
Join me as I step into this new journey, and exciting adventure. I am happy to take you along with me, enjoy the ride.
